dang they want alot for that don't they? Them boat whimseys are way common... used to sell for 2.50 when i was a kid at border crossing.

Ooh.. that's not the 1/2 of it. I was noseying around on different auctions all over the place and maaaan.. some of the old purses and pin cushions were going like waaay more than that.

yeah the old purses and whimsies are highly collectable and date pretty far back... but they are more collectable because the materials used. There is a collector desire for the boats of course but they usually don't go near as high as the purses and wall hangings and such. But to be honest.. that boat does'nt look as old as they are trying to make it sound it is. I would say that's no older than the 1960's but I could be wrong.

Know what you mean... LOL! I've seen some that I'm really wondering if they just made it or dang that person took really darn good care of it. But maaaan.. some of them do date waaaay back.. I think that's soooo kewl seeing them. :)

LOL I save pics of the old whimseys off ebay... gonna put them all on one disc eventually... they are great reference material when you are wanting to make soemthing

ROTFLMBO!!! Same here!!! (to a CD even.. LOL!!) :) LOL! .. for same reason and also that way my boys and grandkids can see how things were made back then.

Hey Bear and PMS woman,

I agree. I don't think that beadwork is as old as they are saying...it is wayyyy too new looking....nice piece I guess. I haven't seen the boats as much as I have seen the pin cushions or the picture frames.

I used to get a boat , a jitterbug and beaded doll necklace every year in the 70's when we went to border crossing. I have one necklace which is made of beads and sequins that looks like a person's head wearing a war bonnet... I've actually copied it before too.. but it's so old now that I don't dare wear it... it was actually sewn with real sinew.
