Today I decided to treat myself to quality shopping after spending many months grabbing clothes off the wal-mart racks. I wanted to buy some quality spring and summer items before they sell out.

So I went down to OFF FIFTH, a Saks Fifth Avenue closeout we have here in the Falls. I always adore the designer items they have, and before I had a mortgage payment, I loved buying expensive $70 sandals because they always drew compliments. So today I was pumped to get a pair of $70 sandals I haven't indulged in since 2002. I was extremely disappointed to find that cute closeout designer sandals are no longer $70, but $159.99!!!! No sandals for me :(

I also bought a car today. My Ford Explorer lease is killing me in gas and over-milage charges so I bought a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am with 10,000 miles for $11,800. Initially I was excited about picking out a new vehicle, but I soon found that Ford Explorers can run as high as $36,000, and new cars under $20,000 are rare. I think I went with the best decision economically (half-price gas and car payment) but its also tough to realize things are MUCH more expensive these days.

Anytime gas goes up, so does everything else. The increase in gas cost to transport goods is passed on to the consumer. With gas at an all time high, it's going to affect everything we purchase.

Me, myself, I would never pay $70 dollars for a pair of any shoes. What's in a $159.99 pair of shoes? Gold? I'm very happy with my low quality shoes bought at Walmart or Kmart. Lol

GOOD GRIEF!! who in their right mind spends that much on a pair of sandals that are already out of style only to have to buy a new pair next summer??? Anyone ever hear of Payless Shoe Source???? Hey and they got my favorite little japanese style shoes there this year in cute bright colors... of course though, I bought black.

Well, I think they are worth it. I will buy my clothes at Wal-Mart, but very rarely will I buy shoes there.

The closeout shoes at Saks are ahead of their time here. Any metropolitan center is a year ahead of us when it comes to fashion.

I for one do not understand ladies fashion at all and shoes are the worst. Someone says 4-inch pointy healed pointy-toed shoes are "in fashion". Ladies run out and buy them and even though they hurt like hell they continue to wear them until they are no longer "in fashion". Fashion be dammed if it isn’t comfortable then don’t buy them because if your feet hurt they are telling you something. Telling you: "These shoes are not good for you."

Short skirts in New York in January are another dumb thing. Some homosexual fashion designer in the Bahamas says short skirts are "in fashion" and all of a sudden New York Ladies are freezen there arises off to be "in fashion". Maybe I should have left the last one out as I must admit that it warms my blood to see a nicely curved leg in the middle of winter. Ha ha ha

I have two words for you, Sanj...Garage Sales.

as you know, I have lost a bunch a weight over the winter and I needed a whole new summer ward robe. I have had much better luck with second hand stuff than shopping in the stores. I am the clearance rack queen but I have have really hit the mother load at some g sales this spring. I am so excited about some of my finds!

As for shoes, I would never spend $159 for sandals unless of coarse I was on "What Not to Wear" were they give you $5000 for a new wardrobe. even then it would hurt me. But I do spend $50-60 on good shoes. I have plantar facietes (not spelled right) and I have to wear good shoes with lots of support or my whole body gets out of whack. I do not know how anyone can wear flip-flops! I wish I could. They are so much easier to slip on!
And shoes are not something that I buy second hand, either, unless they are like new. There is just somethin' weird about that.
I get my shoes at Shoe Carnival or Famous Footwear, but they are never "cute" as they are more orthopedic looking :hah hah .

Damn! The mention of $159 shoes has everyone heated! LOL I don't know if you guys read that I did not buy any $159 shoes in my original post....

Anyway, I took my long awaited trip to New York City over the weekend and purchased many pairs of shoes. I have a Macy's credit card that I only use when I'm on a trip (because we don't have Macy's here) and bought myself five pairs of shoes I needed.

I don't buy fancy clothes because I'm not skinny enough to invest in nice stuff. But a pair of nice sandals does jazz up a blah pair of jean shorts. I also believe that having your hair done does more for you than a nice outfit.

The hair thing works for men too, but I think that a cowboy or dress up hat spruces up men's looks more

I used to have my hair styled about 15 years ago and I will admit it looked way better, longer than the haircuts I get now. But the 45.00 for a style is a bit more than I want to pay and I am sure it is way more today Grrrrr. Now if Butch cuts were in vogue I do have an old pair of clippers.

Now about the shoes. Sitting here thinking I guess anyone has the right to get what he or she wants. :) If I take 3 people out to eat I am going too spend at least that much. :s_crazy: Now at least the shoes are going to last for awhile while 6 hours later we will all be hungry again and all the meal will have done is help to overburden the waste treatment system.

Your meal bill could be this for one:

Bone in Filet mignon $34 + Lobster tail $34 (surf n turf)

Beefsteak tomato and onion salad $8

Mashed Potatoes $5

2 Glasses of wine $12

Every cent is worth it, this place is out of this world!!! I get a Seneca discount, 25%. Last time my husband and I ate there we only spent $64. We got Filet Mignon, Bone-in Filet, split a baked potato (they're huge), clams casino and salad.

and those five people have to wear shoes right? ROFLMAO

I was'nt going off on you for buying a pair (which I know you did'nt) of shoes for 159.00, I was simply offended by something calling themsevles an outlet store selling shoes for that much!! Fashion so sucks when every year last year's shit is out of date so you have to buy more to keep in style which is something i have NEVER been able to fathom... and it ticks me off cause I have a hard time finding shoes and when I find a pair I like I try to buy an extra pair cause I'll never find them again... even my old staple monkey boots are'nt made by Na Na's anymore so I have to buy the other brand if I want them and they are a more narrow boot. I hate that.
